A visit with Brenda in MN

Yesterday I drove up to Maple Lake, MN to visit with Brenda before I head back to Arkansas.  I intended to get up there earlier and more than once, but the summer went by so quickly we just didn't get it done.  I am so glad I went.  I finally met Jagger - her Alpine wether and constant friend.  He reminds me of my wether, Wabi.  He loves Brenda and apparently he loves visitors who take pictures as well.  Here he is with Brenda.

Sheerah's baby

In the last picture of Sherrah at the fair only her doeling was showing.  Here is her lovely red TWO WEEK OLD buckling - held by my friend Brenda.  I hear she has had offers for him already.  Imagiine that!  I had to wait to post until I had her permission.  Isn't he lovely? I'm told that shortly after the picture was taken Sheerah tried to bite Brenda's purse strap in half.  She is a good, protective mama.

MN State Fair

Yesterday Liz took me and her nephew Jake to the Minnesota State Fair.  My main reason for going was to see two goats born at my place in MO and purchased as weanlings by Brenda in MN.  They are in the Miracle of Birth Center with their kids.  Sheerah is the daughter of Nita, one of my first purebred Boers out of Triquest stock and one of my best producers of breeding stock.  I can't tell you how many does I sold out of that lady - they always went first.  Sheerah was also the first 'red tailed' Boer I had.  They are always so easy to find!  Here she is with her doeling  - only two weeks old and already huge.  I can tell she has had a good life with Brenda!!!

Jesse the magnificent

So Jesse grew up to be a teaser buck and loved every minute of it.  He would pick out the girls and I would take them to a meat buck.  He would stand by the fence and wait for them to come back.  He couldn't see where they went but he knew which gate to meet them at on their return.  He was big and gentle and sweet - always coming up to me in the pasture for a back rub.  He died in his sleep at over ten years.  I just loved him.

Days gone by

Our first goats were dairy.  My daughter Liz showed them in 4H and did quite well.  Here she is with Jesse on the right and Little Richard on the left.  Jesse got two legs of his Grand championship and ended up as a teaser buck when Liz left home and I started with meat goats.  He was a gorgeous Alpine.  I'll get another picture up tomorrow.

Something sweet

Running short of up to date goat pictures but I'm heading back to Arkansas the 7th.  In the meantime this picture is from our trip on the Mississippi River at New Orleans.  They were unloading raw brown sugar - sweet!

Bad Dog!!

Thought I'd include some old 'friends' that I have found during my scanning extravaganza.  Remember the terrier in the cowboy hat? Well, here is the dog before her.  This dog's name was Jiggs after a cartoon character.  He would not stay home and ran away quite regularly.  Finally, when the fellow who found him said he was "such a nice dog", my grandma said "Keep him!" and that was the end of Jiggs. He was kind of cute though.

Dear Lady

Maybe I ought to say 'dear Pat Cotten' for keeping Lady all this time.  She is the only What Not daughter born on my old place now that Filthy Edith's Ethel died, and I was so interested to see what her kids would be like.  I made a mistake and bred her too young and had to really baby her kids out of her.  She was a great mom and her doeling is a much beloved pet in Chillicothe, MO.  She didn't make the transition to Pat's very well and aborted her kid last year.  Then she decided to get sickly, failed to thrive, didn't respond to anything Pat did.  It got to the point that I just told Pat to shoot her and get it over with.  But she didn't and I am so grateful. I got this picture from Pat the other day with the caption, "Lady says Pffttt!  I guess she fooled me.

Mother and daughter

I just love family pictures.  Amelia and her yearling daughter Aimee are drop dead gorgeous Texmasters who hang out in pasture 2.  Bollie is their guardian - at least I THINK that's where they are.  I had better get back down to Arkansas before I forget everything I know! They look so sweet together.

Conan and the economy

In this struggling economy it's good to know there are jobs out there for the truly gorgeous animals born last kidding season at Bendingtree.  When Conan was born Miss Charlie fell in love and was SURE he would be a herd sire somewhere - and she was right! And it looks like he has a lovely lady to spend time with as well.  He is off to his new home with the Rudd family in south Arkansas along with BTR Hettie, a young TexMaster doe. Conan is 50% TexMaster/50% Spanish.
